Women in Islam and Radical Jihadism - Dr. Reza Mansoor (October 22)
Dr. Reza Mansoor will return for a second presentation on Islam. This session will focus on the elements that have received the most critical attention in the past few years: the role of women in Islam and the radical and even violent natures of the expressions of faith of some Muslims. He will explain the appeal of these radical expressions by addressing this question: Why, if the teachings of the Koran claim to be essentially peaceful and non-threatening to other daiths, do young Musim radicals become suidice bombers and attack the innocent?

Three Heresies- Rev. Phil LaBelle (November 5)
We've heard a lot of references to Early Church heresies in the past year due to The Da Vinci Code and publishing of The Gospel of Judas, but many of us don't know much about these heresies or why they were considered heresies in the first place. DUring this lecture, Phil explained some familiar heresies: Arianism — the one alluded to in Da Vinci Code which denies Christ's divinity; Valentinianism—a Gnostic heresy claiming Christ was solely spirit and only appeared human; and Marcionism—this one focuses on a God of Love to the exclusion of a God of Law and therefore rejects all of the Old Testament and parts of the New Testament. What's fascinating is that iterations of these three keep arising even today, so while part history refresher, this session will also be relevant to modern times.
Our Associate rector, Phil LaBelle, oversees the youth programs and outreach efforts. He also leads the "Come As You Are" alternative evening Eucharist at Saint Luke's. He and his wife Melissa have two children and have been at Saint Luke's for over two years.

Reciting Our Creed: Belief or Perjury- Rev. David Anderson (November 26)
Have you ever wondered whether you were perjuring yourself when you faithfully recited the Nicene or Apostle’s creed on Sunday morning? Our rector, David Anderson will speak to the question of how antique concepts in the creeds drafted by the Church fathers in the 4th century can represent an honest statement of our faith in 2006. David will review the creeds in the light of our modern-day scientific and cultural milieu so that they can become for us true statements of what we believe about the nature of God and God’s relationship with us.
