Movie Series – Amistad Tuesday, June 17 at 5:30 pm (New Time!) At the DARIEN LIBRARY In honor of Juneteenth, TOUR and the Darien Library are offering a special screening of the film Amistad, followed by a discussion led by Chris Menapace, Director of Education at “Discovering Amistad.” The film is an historical drama directed by Steven Spielberg based on events aboard the Spanish slave ship La Amistad in 1839. Mende tribesmen abducted for the slave trade gained control of the ship. The ship was subsequently captured by a U.S. cutter, and an international legal battle followed that was ultimately resolved by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1841. The event is free, but you must register HERE.  Arrive early to get food at the library’s cafe or bring your own movie snacks!
