TOUR Movie Series

To honor Dr. King’s birthday, we will show the 2018 movie “King in the Wilderness,” a documentary film about Martin Luther King Jr. focusing on the final two years of his life leading up to his assassination on April 4, 1968. The film includes footage of historical events as well as retrospective interviews with some of those closest to King (Bernard Lafayette, Andrew Young, Diane Nash, Harry Belafonte, John Lewis, Dorothy Cotton, Joan Baez, Xernona Clayton, Jesse Jackson, Mary Lou Finley, Cleveland Sellers, and C. T. Vivian).

We learn about events in the later years of the Civil Rights Movement, such as the Chicago Freedom Movement, the James Meredith march, King’s famous/infamous ‘Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence’ speech, the 1967 riots, the Poor People’s Campaign, the Memphis sanitation strike, the ‘Been to the Mountaintop’ speech (King’s last), and his assassination and funeral.

The event will include a discussion and refreshments. Come join us to learn more about Dr. King’s transformational life and work and the struggles that we don’t often hear about.
