A letter to our New Rector

Dear New Rector,

We hope the information on our website gives you some sense of who we are and what we do at Saint Luke’s.  And we hope that through this letter, you’ll have some sense of our community in Christ.

We’re a community of families who work hard, sometimes too hard.  And we own the responsibilities that come with achievement.  We strive to understand our place in God’s creation and discover ways to enter into dialogue with the wide range of souls who share our world.  It’s why Faith-in-Action is a core value at Saint Luke’s.  We take the Action part seriously, through decades of engagement with local, regional and international partners who enlighten our journey as a community of faith.

It’s a two way street.  We go out into the world to listen, learn and do.  Cuba, Maine and HomeFront are experiences that allow us to grow our concept of neighbor.  In addition, we invite our neighbors to come to us.  Person-to-Person was founded in a parish closet and has grown to become a major social service agency.  It continues to be headquartered on our campus so clients can be with us, meet our volunteers, play on the playground, attend our Community Suppers and consider joining us in worship or becoming part of our parish family.

We believe in continuous improvement, continuous discernment, continuous seeking God and the path for our journey.  We believe music is an important part of worship.  And we like some fun with our work.

And so we seek another partner.  Someone who’s grounded in both the spirit and the world.  Someone who can laugh and cry and bring out the best in our talented clergy and parishioners.  Someone who can break open God’s word for us in preaching and in teaching. We want to know who you are so we can help bring out the best in you too.  We’re eager to meet you and your family, whatever its composition.  Together we can learn and grow and find Jesus among our everyday saints.

With God’s Blessings,

Saint Luke’s Parish

About us

Saint Luke’s is a faithful, engaged and committed parish with 900 active households. Attendance each Sunday hovers around 300 people (not including children). Our Sunday worship services are: 8 am Rite II Holy Eucharist, 10 am Holy Eucharist with the Choir, and a 5 pm Come As You Are (CAYA) contemporary service with live music. On Wednesdays we offer a middle of the week Eucharist. We are a vibrant community of prayer, fellowship and service.

GROWTH

We are a growing parish. Over 125 individuals, including 42 families, joined us in 2018-2019. We average over 40 baptisms a year and have 85 students participating on our confirmation class. Read more about our Newcomers program and how we welcome people to explore God and their faith.

LEARNING

Adults, Youth and Children at Saint Luke’s are involved in a wide range of programs that enable us to grow and deepen our faith and commitment to God. Adult Spirituality offers many opportunities for spiritual growth and development. This includes Pathways – an hour of speakers and programs offered to parishioners between the two Sunday morning services. We have a robust three-year confirmation program and four distinct offerings for our younger children, starting at 3 years of age through 5th grade.

MUSIC

The production of a service is something Saint Luke’s does incredibly well. Music is an important and cherished part of the fabric that makes up Saint Luke’s. Choirs sing weekly at the 10 am Sunday Eucharist and at many special services such as Advent Lessons and Carols. And we offer contemporary music during the 5 pm “Come As You Are” (CAYA) service.

SERVICE

Saint Luke’s has a long and passionate history putting faith into action, locally, regionally and internationally. We host on campus activities, have ongoing partnerships with regional social service organizations and travel to U.S. and Caribbean countries to offer aid and deepen our understanding of our neighbor.
