January 31, 2021
Saint Luke’s Annual Meeting will be this Sunday, January 31st. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we will gather on Zoom at 11:15 a.m. that day, immediately following the 10:00 a.m. live-streamed Eucharist. The Annual Meeting is an opportunity to hear from parish leadership about the State of the Parish, and to elect new lay leadership to the Vestry. After an extraordinary year together in 2020, we will also look ahead to what is in store for 2021.
Proposed By-Laws
Based on feedback received from parishioners during the two Zoom information sessions, we have made revisions to the proposed new Parish By-Laws. The changes are relatively minor, but we believe they have resulted in an even stronger set of governing procedures. Below we have included a summary of the updates.
Both the By-Laws Committee and the Vestry have reviewed and approved the changes. We will bring these By-Laws for a vote during the annual meeting on Sunday, January 31st at 11:15 am via Zoom. It is our hope that we will have the parish’s support in adopting these new By-Laws.
Sincerely,
the Vestry and By-Laws Committee
Summary of final revisions:
— To include an overall limit on consecutive years of service as an Officer and Vestry member to ten years.
— To require consultation by the Rector with the Vestry, instead of just the Wardens, in appointing committee members.
— To include a limitation of liability for Officers and other Vestry members tracking Section 33-1026 of the Connecticut General Statutes.
— To add a provision contemplating periodic review and reconsideration of the By-Laws, largely as a reminder to the Vestry of the value of doing so.
