Selma (2014) chronicles the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches, protesting the denial of voting rights for Black Americans. As the marchers attempt to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge, they are attacked by state troopers with clubs and tear gas. The attack is shown on national television, and the marches ultimately lead to the signing of the 1965 Voting Rights Act by Lyndon B. Johnson.
