TOUR Film Series: “The Green Book”

Sunday, March 10 at 3:30PM in the Parish Hall

Three-time Academy Award Winning “The Green Book” depicts the life of Dr. Don Shirley, a talented Black American pianist who tours the American South in 1962. His driver is Frank “Tony Lip” Vallelonga- an Italian American “tough guy” who is not overtly racist; but like much of white America at that time, isn’t too fond of black people. We see how Dr. Shirley’s color prevents his talents from being recognized as he encounters racial slurs and inequalities. The poor treatment endured by Dr. Shirley opens Tony Lip’s eyes – and our eyes too.

* The Green Book (The Negro Motorist Green Book) was a travel guide, published from 1936-67, that identified businesses in the United States that would accept Black customers.
