Music at Saint Luke’s

Sharing the Gift of Music

Music is an important and cherished part of the fabric that makes up Saint Luke’s. We are fortunate to have an outstanding Parish Choir, growing Chorister program, spirit-filled Come As You Are Band, and talented and dedicated music staff. The Friends of Music exist to support our choirs and allow them to share their gifts both within and beyond our walls. Our vision is that Saint Luke’s remain a center for excellent and inspiring musical offerings in Darien, with a reputation that stretches far beyond.

Chorister Program

Our music program, affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music in America, provides young singers with age-appropriate vocal training, superior music education, community building skills, excellent Christian education, and unique performance and travel opportunities. Our young choristers in the Saint Nicholas, Saint Cecilia, and Saint Gregory Choirs rehearse weekly and sing regularly in Church. They are also paid stipends based on merit while they study the RSCM’s Voice for Life training curriculum.

Parish Choir

The Saint Luke’s Parish Choir is made up of talented volunteers and a professional quartet of section leaders. The core repertoire comes from the Anglican cathedral tradition, but also embraces jazz, Gregorian chant, spirituals, world music, and contemporary composers. The Parish Choir sings each week (September through June) at the 10AM Sunday Eucharist, monthly Evensongs, and special services throughout the year. Rehearsals are held on Thursdays from 7:30-9PM from September through May.

New members are always welcome to join this active and caring community of singers. Requirements to join the choir are a basic knowledge of music, a good ear, a desire to be a team player, and a commitment to the choir schedule. You do not have to be a member of Saint Luke’s or an Episcopalian to join.

Friends of Music

The mission of the Friends of Music at Saint Luke’s Parish is to continually support our choirs and allow them to share their gifts both within and beyond our walls.

Your donation to the Friends of Music helps maintain and improve our music program on an ongoing basis, including supporting music for special services throughout the year. We also have a permanent Music Endowment Fund which we hope to grow over the years to come.

Donations may be made online, or by check made out to “Saint Luke’s Parish” with the notation “Friends of Music” in the subject line.
